The City of San Mateo and Estero Municipal
Improvement District’s Water Quality Control Plant’s new Nutrient Removal and
Wet Weather Flow Management Upgrade and Expansion Project is nearing
completion. As wastewater professionals—whether in operations and maintenance
or engineering—we have all seen treatment plants in service, but it is rare to
witness a brand-new facility undergoing extensive testing in preparation for
going online. San Mateo’s Water Quality Control Plant features a
state-of-the-art headworks, along with two of the most innovative processes for
treating sanitary sewage: BioActiFlo and MBR.

Bio:
Scott Joslyn is a professional civil engineer, certified Grade V wastewater
treatment plant operator, resident engineer, and municipal wastewater manager,
Currently Scott is the Senior Operations Startup and Commissioning Manager for
HDR.
Jonathon Salerno has a Mechanical Engineering BS and 3rd Assistant Marine
Engineer’s License at California Maritime Academy. Jonathan experience as an
Operations Supervisor in special projects, automated process controls, and
training development helped him move into construction with HDR Inc as an
Operations Specialist.
