City of Santa Monica Sustainable Water Supply Program
September 21, 2023
Contact Hours:
Description:
The City of Santa Monica’s Sustainable Water Supply Program is a
multi-faceted approach to reduce reliance on imported water supplies and
promote sustainable, resilient, and climate-adaptive local water resources.
Join LABS for a tour of the City's Sustainable Water infrastructure Project
(SWIP), a first-of-its-kind facility blending stormwater, urban runoff,
brackish groundwater, and wastewater to produce advanced treated recycled water
in support of the City's Sustainable Water Supply Program. Buried beneath the
City’s Civic Center parking lot, the SWIP facility meets all regulatory
requirements for groundwater augmentation using the first membrane bioreactor
and cartridge filtration systems credited for pathogen log removal.
Dinner will be provided immediately following the tour,
from 5:45 pm to 8 pm.
Featured speaker: Alex Waite is a Supervising Civil Engineer with
the City of Santa Monica’s Water Resources Division. Alex oversees the
technical implementation of the City’s drinking water and recycled water
systems to implement the City’s goal of water self-sufficiency. He is also Vice
President of
the WateReuse California Los Angeles Chapter.
Special Note: Please
wear closed-toed shoes and long pants.
