This session includes the following presentations:
Why and How of Improving Operator Involvement with Wastewater Designs An Operability Review (OR) is conducted to gather input from the end users (O&M Staff) of the design before final design decisions are made. This session will include how to approach an OR, interactive hypothetical workshop problems and an interactive demonstration of virtual reality (VR) tools sometimes used for ORs. Learning Objective(s): After participating in this session, attendees will be able to: • Effectively engage with the design team through active participation conducting Operability and Maintainability reviews. • Understand the value of operator involvement during the design process and how to provide effective feedback. • Conduct or participate in an operability review for a new project design using virtual reality, workshop or other such setting.
When Should Start-up Begin? Often start-up of new equipment and treatment processes is left to those involved in the end of the project construction phase. This process has room for improvement. Get the right people involved at the right time. Listen to ideas to improve start-ups. Otherwise the alliteration ""Prior Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance"" may apply to your project. Learning Objective(s): After participating in this session, attendees will be able to: • Participants will understand the importance of O&M participation during project planning before final designs are completed. • Participants will know questions to ask on how start-up will be accomplished. • Participants will know what should be included in a start-up plan, when it should start and who should be involved. This will vary greatly depending on the complexity of the new systems and equipment.
Maintenance Lessons Learned from 66 MGD Bypass of Influent Structure All plants need to perform maintenance, however, not all areas that need maintenance are easily accessible. Come learn about Central San’s experience implementing a successful 66 mgd bypass of one of their most inaccessible areas – their Influent Structure – to rehabilitate the structure and maintain their assets. Learning Objective(s): After participating in this session, attendees will be able to: • After participating in this session, participants will be able to feel comfortable tackling required maintenance at the “untouchable” locations of their facility. • After participating in this session, participants will be able to identify variables needed, such as flow split through a structure, to aid in the design process. • After participating in this session, participants will be able to list key milestones required for the bypass operation during the planning/scheduling process.
