Whole Effluent Toxicity: How New Regulations Will Impact NPDES Permittees
The statewide toxicity policy being prepared by the State Water Board will affect NPDES-permitted facilities that conduct Whole Effluent Toxicity testing. We will address the following questions. Where does the policy stand today? How will it affect your facility? Are there special considerations for the chronic Ceriodaphnia dubia test?
Learning Objective(s):
After participating in this session, attendees will be able to:
• Understand the basics of whole effluent toxicity testing.
• Understand challenges with conducting whole effluent toxicity testing.
• Gain a familiarity with how whole effluent toxicity NPDES permit requirements will change based on the State Water Resources Control Board's statewide toxicity provisions.

Collaborative Strategies for Addressing Emerging Regulatory Requirements
Ever feel overwhelmed by new and emerging regulatory requirements? Do you wonder if there are better options that can cost less, take less time and have greater impact than just more stringent effluent limits or another regulatory requirement when protecting human health and environment? In this session we will explore the Central Valley's Salt and Nitrate plan and USEPA's 2013 Ammonia Criteria and how working collaboratively together provided better solutions - for the regulators, the environment, and the agencies involved. Not only will you learn about these emerging requirements- salt, nitrate and ammonia - but this session will delve into ways where through collaboration, you could meet your regulatory challenges.
Learning Objective(s):
After participating in this session, attendees will be able to:
• Comprehend the requirements of CV-SALTS and USEPA's new ammonia criteria and the options that may be available for complying with these and other regulatory requirements.
• Determine the best pathway for complying with CV-SALTS and the 2013 Ammonia Criteria and other regulatory challenges.
• Identify areas where collaboration could improve job efficiencies, reduce costs and have greater benefits.

Integrated Stormwater/Wastewater Planning: Adaptive, Long-Term Investment Strategies Based on Community Priorities
Over the last decade, the USEPA has developed policies to support long-term Integrated Planning for water, wastewater, and stormwater utilities, culminating in the 2019 Clean Water Act amendment codifying these flexibilities. This presentation will cover USEPA’s process, national case studies, and opportunities to address the issues California utilities face.
Learning Objective(s):
After participating in this session, attendees will be able to:
• Understand the key features of the 2019 Clean Water Act amendment.
