Join us on Thursday September 14th
from 2:30-4:30pm for a field trip to the Inland Empire Utilities Agency (IEUA) Regional
Water Recycling Plant No. 5 (RP-5) Liquids Treatment Expansion and Solids
Treatment Facility Project (“RP-5 Expansion”). The site visit will start with a
brief overview of the RP-5 Expansion project, providing information on the
project scope, cost, equipment procurement process, and construction
sequencing.
Then, IEUA staff familiar with the
project will lead a walking tour of the following project elements:
1. Liquids: influent pump station
expansion, headworks improvements, fine screen facility, new primary clarifiers
(2), aeration basins improvements, and a new membrane bioreactor (MBR).
2. Solids: rotary drum thickening (RDT)
building, digester facilities, centrifuge dewatering building, boiler building,
digester gas treatment and flaring, food waste receiving, and improvements to
existing energy recovery engines.
Construction has been underway since
2020 and is approaching the final stages. Once complete, the improvements will
increase the RP-5 liquid capacity from 16.3 mgd to 22.5 mgd, as well as
preparation for an ultimate buildout to 30 mgd. The new solids facility at RP-5
will also prepare the way for decommissioning the existing solids facility at
RP-2
