The recently completed SoFi Stadium is a showcase facility for its feats as an entertainment venue and an advanced water resource management system utilizing the picturesque 5-acre lake just outside the stadium’s entrance. The lake functions as a flood attenuation and stormwater treatment system for much of the stadium and entertainment district. The lake also serves as an irrigation storage reservoir fed by site runoff and recycled water. An advanced treatment system addresses the high ammonia levels in the recycled water and nutrients from the runoff and provides on-going circulation and treatment to maintain pristine lake water quality. This system is a first-of-its-kind in California and challenged the boundaries of stormwater / wastewater reuse by achieving a Regional Water Quality Control Board permit to discharge co-mingled stormwater and recycled water. The presentation and tour will feature the site design elements and advanced treatment process that made this multi-benefit system possible.
