The metal finishing industry provides a vital public service: protecting metals and non-metals from corrosion and excessive wear. Because of the amount of products produced, waste generated, and chemicals of concern used by this industry sector, metal finishers are ideal candidates for pollution prevention (P2) strategies which may provide significant savings to metal finishers.

Learning Objectives:
Identify the three main sections in a plating shop where waste is generated and the three main compartmental categories where pollution prevention opportunities may be found and implemented, including, but not limited to, the use of various processes to recover constituents, reuse or recycle rinses or conserve water.
Discuss exposition of Green Chemistry concepts potentially found in Metal Finishing operations and explain P2 practices currently implemented at one of the metal finishers within City of LA inventory already on a path toward implementation of Green Chemistry alternatives
Integrate pollution prevention practices into your current operating structure in order to assist your facility in enhancing your regulatory compliance status and achieve economic benefits associated with implementing pollution prevention practices by being more resourceful in terms of chemical purchasing, utilizing less toxic chemicals as well as decreasing waste generation and associated recycling costs.
