Scheduled Time: 9:00 a.m.- 9:50 a.m. Open Forum – Drinking Water and Wastewater Operator Certification Programs Description: This is an interactive discussion between state representatives, operators, supervisors, owners of drinking and wastewater systems, and water industry associations. This forum is for anyone working in the water industry. Instructor: Annette Caraway, State Water Resources Control Board Office of Operator Certification Scheduled Class Time: 10:00 a.m. – 10:50 a.m. Wastewater Treatment Operator Prep Classes for Grades 1 - 3 Title: An Overview of Primary and Secondary Clarifiers and their Operational Considerations Description: Topics will include how a clarifier works, typical mechanical components, types of waste removed, expected removal efficiencies, surface overflow rates, sludge withdrawal rate, and solids loading rates. Attendees will learn about clarifier operations and their uses in the primary and secondary processes as well as how to determine proper operation and recognize the signs of poor performance. They will also practice clarifier math and learn how these math problems apply to the operation of a clarifier. Instructor: Jordan Damerel, Director of Engineering for Fairfield-Suisun Sewer District ------------ Title: Activated Sludge Description: The class will cover activated sludge for the upcoming state certification. Instructor: Monte Hamamoto, Silicon Valley Clean Water Chief Operating Officer; Adjunct Professor of Water Wastewater Technology at Solano College and Gavilan College Scheduled Class Time: 11:00 a.m. – 11:50 a.m. Water Treatment Operator Prep Classes for Grades 1 – 3 Title: Water Treatment Grade T2 and T3 Study Course This class will cover Water Treatment Grade T2 and T3 certification practice questions for those taking the upcoming state certification. The T2 and T3 exams are entry level certificates necessary to operate most water treatment plants. Instructor: Daniel Gill, Water Treatment Superintendent, East Bay Municipal Utility District ------------------------------------ Scheduled Class Time: 10:00 a.m. – 10:50 a.m. Title: Drinking Water Disinfection Description: The history, impact, effectiveness, and use of chemical disinfectants to destroy or inactivate waterborne pathogens. Their impacts on the water quality and regulatory requirements. Instructor: James Kenney, Superintendent of Operations, Water Treatment, Marin Municipal Water District Scheduled Class Time: 11:00 a.m. – 11:50 a.m. ------------- Water Distribution Operator Prep Classes for Grades 1 - 3 Title: Water Distribution Certification Prep Classes Grades 1-3 Description: This class will cover Water Distribution Operator Grade 1-3 information for those taking the upcoming state certification. Instructor: Danny Ward, Water/Wastewater Systems Operations & Maintenance Supervisor, The City of Pleasanton Scheduled Class Time: 10:00 a.m. – 10:50 a.m. Title: Distribution System Flushing and Valve Exercising Program Description: This class is designed to demonstrate the successful components of a comprehensive water distribution system flushing program coupled with an effective valve exercising plan. An effective program provides benefits ranging from improved delivered water quality to increased valve shutdown reliability during emergencies. These programs also serve to satisfy the regulatory compliance requirements regarding dead-end flushing, storm water discharge compliance and valve maintenance best management practices.
