Join us to listen to a presentation on how Los Angeles
County is addressing California Senate Bill 1383 for food waste recycling. From rotten apples to vehicle fuel - Johnmar Deguzman and
Winnie Siauw will explain how the Sanitation Districts are transforming food waste
into renewable energy for LA County, and what this means for the future of our
community. Winnie will discuss California's Senate Bill 1383 which requires
organic waste diversion from landfills to help reduce greenhouse gases. Johnmar
will discuss how the Sanitation Districts have responded to the law through the
agency's Food Waste Program by accepting organic waste, generating biogas
through anaerobic co-digestion, and converting it into renewable natural gas as
vehicle fuel.

Speaker Bios:
Johnmar Deguzman is a licensed P.E. in Mechanical Engineering in the State of
California and has worked with the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts
since 2007. Mr. Deguzman is a Senior Engineer in the Energy Recovery Section
and supports operation and maintenance of Districts’ Solid Waste Energy
Recovery Facilities and assists in the development of special projects for the
Districts’ Food Waste Recycling Program.
Winnie Siauw is a project engineer in the Energy Recovery
Section and has worked with the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts for five
years. Her work primarily focuses on the Food Waste Recycling Program expansion
and operations. She also supports SB 1383 compliance and procurement start-up
efforts.
